Divine Lake

15 Sunday Dec 2019

Divine Lake

Divine Lake, Arif Khudairi’s new book of poems, contains 101 haiku that express the poet’s inner feelings and thoughts on love and nature. The poet sees the simple beauty in life and in love and portrays his impressions about each aspect of such beauty in vivid images and the purest possible form. His sweet, tender and melodic words, which always flow gracefully, grasp reality and open many close hearts and minds. He touches the souls, speaks to the minds and enriches the reader’s world with his superior insight and musical words. He skillfully uses symbolism to describe his feelings and views and bring forth beauty within ourselves and in nature around us. In his verse, Mr Khudairi expresses a powerful declaration of love and tells a colorful love story. In seventeen short syllables, he conveys a whole story complete with the sweetest melody and original images. The innocence of love in his poems rivals that of purity. His display of true love in these haikus is bottomless. The deepness in his lines can be only imagined and sensed through the music of his words. Arif’s haikus are unique, thought provoking and spiritually revealing. The poet has plundered jewels of wisdom of rare and exquisite beauty for all to behold. He has created such archetypal images and captured timeless moments. The poet makes his reader feel love, loss, wistful, and cheerful. In fact, the reader not only sees love through the poet’s eyes, he even smells flowers and senses blossoming love around. Arif, as Lughul states, “has the blood of Omar Khayyam flowing through his veins, giving his pen gracious words. It seems haiku poetry has its reputation for wisdom not in one poem, but in one poet who consistently writes well. Arif Khudairi is very consistent. Maybe that is his path to greatness.” In Divine Lake, Arif Khudairi did an exceptionally ace job with his haikus. He is so deep and so perceptive. He created an interchange of creative interpretations. His sparse and eloquent words create something that speaks to readers on so many levels. His haikus are priceless, timeless and mind captivating masterpieces. The poet has such a gift for choosing the right words to convey his message. In his simple and beautiful haikus, he says more than what ten thousand lines of verse could express. In short, Divine Lake is a splendid and unique haiku collection crafted with an adept scholarly hand. It is one of very best haiku books of all times. This original poetic book, with its admirable and artistic qualities, clearly merits a larger readership in the Occident and has the potential of considerable critical success.
