There was rain that night.
Your eyes were like wet skies,
And your face was white like snow.
I tried to acquire a provision from your beauty
For the days of separation, and I
Embraced you tight, and my hands were trembling.
But I did not say I was going away
Fearing for your eyes of heavy tears like rain,
That you would say “don’t go!” but you didn’t.
And frightened, like a tiny, sand grouse,
You ran away on that sad, dark night,
As the rain poured down like a trumpet,
And on a tree nearby, a crow sadly cried,
And cried the whole night.
And I left, though I wished you wailed of pain,
You poured heavy tears like rain,
You shouted: “don’t go!”
Then I would spend the rest of my life
Here with you, or I wished
There was no such departure,
Nor a day on which there was rain.
